Chapter 549: SUPRISE 3
Chapter 549: SUPRISE 3
Dayo climbed onto the small stage shaking his head while the room continued cheering.
The moment he stepped onto it, phones immediately appeared everywhere.
Wayne already had his camera pointed at him.
Valerie had hers out.
Alice too.
Min-Jae wasn’t even pretending to be subtle anymore.
The Nigerian artists had their phones raised.
Even Felix, who normally avoided things like this, was holding his phone in one hand while trying to act as though he wasn’t recording.
Dayo looked at all of them in disbelief.
"You people are serious."
"We don’t trust you," Wayne replied immediately.
The room laughed.
"What does that even mean?"
"It means if we don’t record this, tomorrow you’ll pretend it never happened."
"Exactly."
"Facts."
"One hundred percent."
Dayo rubbed his forehead and muttered "Traitors i would see you at work tomorrow."
Every single one of them. Then his eyes found Luna. She wasn’t recording. She was simply standing near Jennifer Watching him and Smiling.
The kind of smile that immediately made everything else disappear.
The noise.
The people.
The cameras.
The stress.
All of it.
For a brief second it felt like they were the only two people in the room.
Then Jennifer pointed directly at him.
"Daddy!"
The room laughed.
Dayo smiled.
"Yes, baby."
Jennifer clapped excitedly. The crowd immediately copied her.
Soon everyone was clapping.
"Okay," Dayo said finally with a deep breath.
"You asked for a song."
The room cheered.
"You asked for a new song a new song you shall get."
The room cheered louder.
Dayo pointed toward Ulrich. "This is your fault."
Ulrich looked proud of himself. "It usually is just suck it up and perform already."
More laughter.
Then Dayo reached for the acoustic guitar that had somehow appeared beside the stage.
That immediately got another reaction.
Several people exchanged surprised looks.
Even Luna looked confused.
"Wait."
Alice blinked.
"Who brought the guitar up there?"
Nobody answered.
Eventually all eyes slowly turned toward Wayne.
Wayne froze.
"What?"
"You planned this."
"I have no idea what you’re talking about."
"You absolutely planned this." Dayo looked at Wayne his supposed closes executive who betrayed him without thinking.
Wayne raised both hands.
The room erupted again.
Dayo sat down on the stool.
The laughter slowly faded, and lights felt softer somehow with conversations dying naturally.
People moved closer Nobody wanted to miss this Dayo was singing a new song their minds were going crazy even Dayo himself didn’t still fully realize how amazing he is after all this was someone who unlike other artist doesn’t actively goes to show and on very rear occasion does he do that and the moment its heard that JD is performing the crowd would multiply artist within the industry called it "The JD Effect".
Right now everywhere was cool and calm even the children running around earlier had settled down.
An unusual calm settled over the room Dayo adjusted the guitar. His fingers lightly brushed the strings.
A soft note floated through the room then another.
The atmosphere changed instantly as Dayo’s voice echoed softly through the crowd.
"For a while there, it was rough
But lately, I’ve been doin’ better
Than the last four cold Decembers
I recall"
the first verse brought the quite room more quite if that was possible, because everybody there knew who Dayo was most people knew him as an executive.
A businessman. A founder. A strategist. An industry giant.
But moments like this reminded them that music had always come first.
"And I see my family every month
I found a girl my parents love
She’ll come and stay the night
And I think I might have it all"
Singing this part Dayo looked at Luna who was hugging Jenifer close to her chest tight, she has been with him before the companies. Before the success and even before the wealth he can even say she gave him a huge boost to get him here.
"And I thank God every day
For the girl He sent my way
But I know the things He gives me
He can take away"
Singing this part his eyes turn red wishing and hoping that his family stays together forever.
"And I hold you every night
And that’s a feelin’ I wanna get used to
But there’s no man as terrified
As the man who stands to lose yo"
As the last note for this part hit he slowly stood walking towards the crowd who gave way and quickly made a few change to the guitar getting ready for the next verse.
"Oh, I hope I don’t lose you
Mm"
He slowly walked towards
"Please stay
I want you, I need you, oh, God
Don’t take
These beautiful things that I’ve got"
Dayo looked down at the guitar for a moment then looked back up. His eyes found Luna again then Jennifer then everyone else these are the people who mattered the people who stayed with him the people who had chosen him over and over again.
The smile on his face softened with a light tears dropping.
"Please stay
I want you, I need you, oh, God
Don’t take
These beautiful things that I’ve got
Oh
Ooh
Please don’t take"
And the changed happened as Dayo switched his tone to a hard one making all the audience shiver unknowing that if one looked well goosebumps appeared on their skin.
"I found my mind, I’m feelin’ sane
It’s been a while, but I’m findin’ my faith
If everything’s good, and it’s great
Why do I sit and wait ’til it’s gone?"
His tone became softer as he sang this verse the crowd still shock but Dayo strolled softly smiling and fist bumping with the kids. The room became completely silent.
"Oh, I’ll tell ya, I know I’ve got enough
I’ve got peace, and I’ve got love
But I’m up at night thinkin’
I just might lose it all"
At this point Dayo wasn’t performing like an artist standing in front of thousands he was singing like a man sitting in a room full of people he trusted, a man who had survived things most of them barely understood a man who had nearly lost everything. a man who somehow found his way back.
"Please stay
I want you, I need you, oh, God
Don’t take
These beautiful things that I’ve got"
As the song continued, more phones rose into the air People wanted to remember this. Not because Dayo was famous but because it felt important like one of those moments people knew they would think about years later.
"Oh
Ooh"
"Please stay
I want you, I need you, oh, God
I need
These beautiful things that I’ve got"
As the song came to an end the guitar carried the melody softly nothing complicated or flashy and somehow that made it hit harder the reaction of the audience were different
Wayne lowered his phone slightly. Not because he stopped recording because he was listening to how calm he sounded
Valerie crossed her arms. Then slowly uncrossed them the small smile she had been carrying disappeared replaced by something else something emotional she could understand every emotion that Dayo portrayed through that song.
Alice pressed her lips together here eyes were already red to the point she had to face down not to let the already falling tear not show.
Min-Jae looked down briefly before shaking his head and smiling to himself sometimes he wondered how Dayo does it, he always seems to be able to bring out the emotions in people wether the like or not.
Even Ulrich wasn’t talking anymore which was probably the most shocking thing that happened all night as he had been the loudest but had calmed down now as his eyes to were red obvioulsy he felt and understood the song after all he had gone through his own hurdles.
Nobody spoke. he silence lasted several seconds. Long enough for Dayo to glance up in confusion wondering if he sounded that bad
Then somebody started clapping. nobody knew who.
Maybe Luna.
Maybe Min-Jae.
Maybe Shino.
It didn’t matter because the next second the entire room exploded applause crashed through the house. Cheers followed immediately after.
People stood whistles echoed from every direction.
Jennifer nearly bounced out of Luna’s arms trying to clap along.
Dayo laughed in embarrassment.
The reaction somehow felt bigger than the surprise party itself.
The room found it adorable every single time.
Dayo smiled as he saw Luna’s eyes and said with a teasing smile."You are crying."
She immediately denied everything. "I am not crying."
"You are."
"I am not."
"You literally are." Dayo smiled as he wiped of the tears showing her.
"It’s allergies."
"Inside the house?"
"Very aggressive allergies."
The people around her laughed quietly. But the truth was most of them understood what she had felt because they felt it too the emotion that couldn’t be describe it was not sadness. Something warmer. Something harder to explain.
Gratitude maybe.
Hope.
Relief.
But they felt and that was mattered.
