Chapter 193: Necromancer
Chapter 193: Necromancer
The pale man with dark hair approached the City of Ghost. He hadn’t been here for quite a while. The white outside wall was still squeaky clean. The Undead must’ve been taking care of the wall nicely.
Carter noticed a few watch towers were built alongside the wall. Many Vampires were guarding there with a long rifle in their hands.
’Huh. Delilah has upgraded the defense of the City of Ghost. Something must have happened.’
He approached the entrance. The guards at the gate were different this time, not the same one that Carter knew.
But the vampires didn’t need to know him to know it was their high lord, the First Vampire. They felt the Undead Authority in their blood and they knelt down.
"Your Highness!" They said in unison.
"You look unfamiliar..." Carter spoke in the soft, haunting voice of Dracula.
"Yes, Your Highness. We are the latest generations of vampire. Both of us are the fifth generation."
"I see. Open the gate."
"Yes, Your Highness! Open the gate! Count Dracula is returning home!"
The steel gate slowly departed. Louis walked out from within, still wearing his full suit of armor. A rather weird look in this industrialized world.
"Your Highness!" Louis knelt.
"Nice to see you, Louis." Carter patted his shoulder. "Is everything alright these days? I saw the new watch towers."
"We were attacked by the Necromancers, Your Highness. Lady Delilah is inside. You may want to ask her for the full details."
"I shall do."
Delilah the red curly hair vampire. Her skin was still as perfect as the last time Carter met her. She wore a thin semi-transparent white dress that showed her smooth skin well.
Carter approached her from behind and put his hands on her shoulder.
"I have returned, my love."
Delilah moaned gently. She kissed his hands.
"I miss you, my prince."
"I heard that some fools attacked us?" Carter said.
Delilah nodded. "The Necromancers. They’re called themselves the Master of the Dead. We did our best to keep our society a secret but you know that we do have agents living in the real world to gather more wealth and power for us. Our secret was leaked."
"Who?"
"One of the First Generation. Benedict."
"He betrayed us?"
"No, my love. None of our children dares to oppose you. But they do have some sort of control over us. Benedict was caught and they did some kind of ritual on him."
"Where is he now?"
"We managed to rescue him from the Necromancers. Still, he did expose us. I’m keeping him in the prison until you return."
Carter raised his finger. One of the vampire servants approached.
"Get Benedict out of the prison and bring him here."
"Yes, Your Highness!" The servant bowed.
Carter and Delilah then sat under the stone table of the garden. Moonlight shined upon them as they drank the two gold cups of blood prepared for them.
The two cups were solid gold. The last time he was here, the City of Ghost was rich but couldn’t afford to use gold in an inexpensive way like this.
The vampires really had solidified themselves as a wealthy community when he was gone.
"Try it, my love. These were the blood of virgins. The First Generations specifically acquired this for us."
"How?"
"Well. There are always those poor women that would do anything for money. The Director of the Enthrall Institute is our children after all."
"I see."
Carter took the cup of blood and drank.

The quality of the blood dictated how much Synchronization Carter received. This cup of blood was rather enticing.
"Not bad. Not bad at all. Our children really have worked hard."
The guards brought Benedict to the garden and pushed him to his knees.
"Count Dracula? Your Highness! I am guilty." The man slammed his head on the ground.
Carter gestured to the guards to release him.
His posture and demeanor were way too calm. It surprised Benedict.
"Aren’t you mad, Father?"
"Why would I be mad?" Carter smiled faintly. "You met an enemy of ours. And you failed to beat them. That would be my fault. I didn’t teach you well."
Carter went behind Benedict and put his hands on his cheeks. Benedict felt the utmost threat. His back was cold even though a vampire had no sense of warmth.
"Please, Father. I can do better! I can be better!"
Carter patted his chest. "Of course you will."
Then Carter let him go. The pale man didn’t really want to kill him. But he was Dracula at the moment. So he needed to show them the threat of facing the Prince of Blood.
"You are forgiven. But take this as a life lesson. Don’t go alone. Always bring back up. And always prepare to fight for your dead."
"Yes, Father! Thank you, Father!" Benedict rushed at Carter and hugged his thigh tightly.
"Come on, now. You’re not a kid no more. Come and sit with us."
"Yes, Father."
Carter sat down. Delilah’s face had softened and became the little obedient wife. But Benedict knew that Delilah was ruthless. She was the one who ordered to lock him up and waited for Carter’s judgment.
"Don’t hate your First Mother, she did the right thing." Carter said.
"Yes, Father."
"Once you have children of your own, you will understand. Sometimes, you have to show them pain for them to learn."
Carter put the cup of blood in front of Benedict. "You must be thirsty. You look terrible as hell. Have a little."
The man nodded and chugged the cup down. His dry skin and hollowed eyes disappeared instantly. The beautiful vampire returned.
"Now. Tell me. What were they like?"
According to Benedict, the Necromancers were a group of hooded men with black cloaks. Each had a pendant or piece of jewelry of some kind. The most important thing to differentiate was their jewelry always had a green gem embedded on it. Those gems were the source of their power.
They had a similar Undead Authority power like a vampire and could control the Undead as well. But what scary was that they could also control the Vampire.
"Controlling us? Nothing can control us." The pale man grinned widely, showing his sharp fangs. "I will show them who is the true lord of the dead."
