Chapter 7 Valley Overlord
Chapter 7 Valley Overlord
Zhao Chen flew through the valley, though it was no longer a valley in the traditional sense. The surrounding peaks grew higher and more precipitous, some even piercing the dark gray sky. The tops were invisible at first glance, and one could only sense the endless cliffs extending outwards above.
But this place is still the surface of the Death Star.
Above, an unchanging gray curtain of light; beneath, jagged rocks and sparse vegetation. Occasionally, a few tenacious green plants can be seen sprouting from the cracks in the rocks, their dark green leaves standing out starkly in this desolate world.
Zhao Chen landed on the edge of a dried-up riverbed.
The riverbed had long since dried up, leaving only pebbles and the skeletons of several unknown creatures scattered on the ground. Zhao Chen lightly scanned his surroundings with his senses; there was no danger: several unidentified insects were hiding under the rocks, and a few argali sheep were grazing on moss in the distance. Zhao Chen swallowed the skeleton and immediately felt a faint surge of power flow into his body.
The harvest was meager.
As for other creatures, devouring them would be a waste of time, and the improvement they provide is negligible for Zhao Chen now, and they are no longer of any interest to him.
"Keep moving forward."
Zhao Chen spread his wings and took flight, heading deeper into the depths.
-
The deeper they flew, the more treacherous and complex the terrain became. After Zhao Chen passed through a forest of jagged rocks...
The stone pillars began to rise to over a hundred feet tall, appearing densely packed like a natural maze. Here, Zhao Chen encountered a flock of rock eagles, each half his former size, which, in a large group, fiercely attacked him.
Zhao Chen won.
But his body also bore several claw marks of varying depths.
After devouring the flock of rock eagles, his flight speed felt even faster.
After Zhao Chen crossed a steep mountain ridge.
A fierce wind began to howl in his ears, so strong that it almost swept Zhao Chen away. At that moment, a giant python hidden in a crevice in the rocks suddenly attacked Zhao Chen, nearly binding him.
Although Zhao Chen won in the end.
But two of his ribs were almost broken by the giant python.
After Zhao Chen finished devouring the giant python, he felt his resistance to the poison increase significantly once again.
Zhao Chen also flew over a sulfur volcano.
The rocks here had been smoked to a yellowish-brown color, and a pungent odor filled the air. Suddenly, a group of fiery red lizards spewed out and sprayed hot bodily fluids at Zhao Chen, scalding his feathers until they curled and charred.
It took Zhao Chen several days to completely repair and regenerate the damaged feathers.
After devouring those fire lizards, Zhao Chen's resistance to high temperatures also began to become extremely strong.
-
Zhao Chen continued fighting and devouring his way forward.
On this dead star, he measured his growth solely by his own transformation.
By the time he had completely conquered this region, Zhao Chen's body had grown to over three zhang in length, and his wingspan was nearly eight zhang.
Its feathers transformed from pure black to a restrained black-gold. The golden sheen was hidden beneath the dark feathers, only appearing and shimmering at specific angles, like a faint, mysterious halo. Its claws also began to curve like divine iron hooks, capable of carving deep ravines into hard rocks with a gentle grip; its beak became incredibly hard, its edges gleaming with a cold, dark golden luster; with a spread of its wings, it could cast a shadow over an entire area.
His soul perception can now cover a radius of two thousand feet.
Within two thousand feet, every rustling of wind, every breath of living creature, and every lurking killing intent was under Zhao Chen's control.
At this moment, Zhao Chen was already the true overlord of this valley region.
The ferocious beasts that once forced him to flee in disarray are now merely food for him; the perilous places that once brought him to the brink of death are now nothing more than his backyard where he can stroll at will.
Zhao Chen stood on the highest peak in this region, looking down at the valley below.
In the distance, a massive cliff stretches across the sky and the earth.
The cliff appeared bottomless, its sheer walls as if cleaved by an ancient god or demon with a single axe. The top of the cliff seemed perpetually shrouded in thick fog, obscuring what lay hidden below.
But Zhao Chen's senses could clearly detect it. Deep within the cliff, there was an extremely strong life force.
Very strong.
It was more terrifying than any creature he had ever encountered before.
Gazing at the deep, dark bottom of the cliff, Zhao Chen's dark eyes blazed with excitement.
"Let's go take a look."
Unfurling his enormous black and gold wings, Zhao Chen sped toward the cliff.
-
At the top of the cliff, mist swirls year-round. Zhao Chen landed on a boulder at the edge and strained his senses downwards.
deep.
It's too deep.
His senses extended downwards for a full two thousand feet, yet he still hadn't reached the bottom of the valley. Moreover, the deeper he went, the more blurred his senses became, as if some inexplicable force was interfering with and isolating Zhao Chen's perception.
But Zhao Chen could sense those life fluctuations, which were real and violent.
And there was more than one.
Instead, there are many paths.
Some of the auras among them were even stronger than his current strength.
Zhao Chen paused slightly.
The bottom of this cliff is clearly a completely new forbidden area, where even more terrifying ferocious beasts may be lurking.
Going down there would be a nine-out-of-ten chance of death.
If he doesn't go down, he will be trapped in this land he has already conquered, and his strength will stagnate.
But he was never one to be afraid of difficulties.
He wants to become stronger.
He wanted to see what kind of dangers were still hidden on this Death Star.
Zhao Chen took a deep breath and leaped off the cliff.
With its wings spread, it glided slowly downwards into the abyss, following the mist.
The fog grew thicker and thicker, and the light grew dimmer and dimmer. The surroundings became deathly silent, with only the wind whistling in Zhao Chen's ears.
But Zhao Chen could clearly sense it.
In the darkness, countless eyes were watching him.
A fighting spirit ignited in Zhao Chen's heart. "Come on. Let me see just how strong you really are."
